This painting was probably my first commission that I did while I was still a student at West Van High school. I was asked to paint this panel for the new theatre entrance in 1970.
It hung in the corridor next to a painting by Jack Shadbolt called "The Red Amulet" Both paintings were eventually vandalized and mine was damaged beyond repair. The painting was of a pole designed by Bill Reid. I depicted this painting as a pole in a deforested area with the remains of a modern city in the vary background.
My intention of this drawing was to represent the tree life size on a wall in my school which never came into being. I enjoyed making the drawing however while sitting in its shade. The tree is situated in the Zoo area of Stanley Park.
